The Truth and Only the Truth?

During my whole upbringing I was always taught to tell the truth. I tried to stick to this in all aspects of life but of course as you get older it just becomes harder and harder to do. I wouldn't say I've given up on it but as of lately I've given it a lot of thought.

I was watching a tv show a few days ago and a guest speaker told the audience that everytime you tell a lie you're killing yourself internally. In theory this makes perfect sense to me. But then I got to thinking, maybe lies aren't really lies, maybe their just different truths. The way I see it everyone has their own version to a story (the school yard game telephone pleads my case) - a certain way that they see things.

Which leads me to wonder, since a lot of times the truth is defined by peoples' personal experiences and beliefs does that mean that their truths are lies and their lies are truths?
